Every naturalista craves popping curls. But finding a wash & go regimen that won’t leave you looking like a poodle can be tough- especially for newbies.
I went natural circa 2008. Over the years, I’ve admittedly said I don’t always feel like a traditional naturalista due to my lack of a detailed hair regimen as well as my lack of brand loyalty.
I’m generally the type of girl who washes with whatever is laying around then follows up with a creamy leave in conditioner of some type, calling it a day after I slick my edges.
Lately, I am more focused on being better to my hair. That means taking a few extra steps to ensure it is healthy and strong.
Because I love you, I’m sharing my latest wash & go regimen for decreased frizz, great moisture, and defined curls in a step by step guide.
Current Wash & Go Regimen
Chi Deep Brilliance Shampoo
Maybe every two weeks I wash with Chi Deep Brilliance Shampoo as a part of my hair regimen. So far, I enjoy the rich hydration of the Chi Deep Brilliance Products. Each product contains Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Tiare Gardenia flowers so you are essentially moisturizing and strengthening hair all at once.
For this step, simply step into the shower, wet your hair, and lather up as you would normally do. I like to lather and rinse at least twice to be sure I’ve done a good job of getting rid of any product build up.
Chi Deep Brilliance Moisture Conditioner
After washing my hair, I follow up with Chi Deep Brilliance Moisture Conditioner.
I usually apply the conditioner while I am in the shower and allow it to sit for at least 4-5 minutes. During this time, I am using my wide-tooth come to detangle my hair for better manageability as I walk through the remaining steps of my regimen.
After I am fully detangled, I rinse and exit the shower.
Shampooing my hair too regularly strips my hair and usually results in more frizz. As such, I also use this conditioner to co-wash my hair on weeks when I am not quite ready to fully shampoo. This conditioner does the trick to get rid of build up and freshen my hair for the week.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream
I will not lie! I absolutely love Cantu products and generally use them for my daily regimen. I consider Cantue products a must have for naturalistas. These products keep my hair super moisturized and glossy- not to mention that this line is less expensive than most others. Cantu makes me feel like I can have it all by offering quality products at a low price point.
…But,back to wash day!
On wash day, Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream helps restore damaged areas of my hair. When I hop out of the shower, I apply a generous amount of the cream to wet hair and comb it through. I immediately feel the difference in the texture of my hair. My tresses become silky smooth and my curls gain good definition.
As I am Curling Jelly
As I am Curling Jelly is perfect for adding hold without stiffness.
After I’ve applied the Cantu Cream, I apply the curling jelly to small sections of my hair. Next, I use my cushion brush to define curls.
You can also use a technique called shingling to get a super defined look (see youtube video at end of post). After application, I am near the end of my wash & go regimen.
Chi Deep Deep Brilliance Sheen
This is the easy part. Now that my curls are defined, I spray a little Chi Deep Brilliance Sheen on my hair for extra shine. It is light weight so it will not make you feel too oily or increase the time it takes for your hair to dry.
This sheen is also great for extra application after your hair is fully dry or on days following your wash & go.
Garnier Sleek & Shine Moroccan Oil
I like to use Sleek & Shine Oil for locking in moisture and set my curls. Squeeze about a quarter size of the oil in the palms of your hands. Next, take one side of your hair and scrunch the oil through, paying extra attention to your ends.
Repeat on the other side and voila! You’re all set to air dry or diffuse.
Good hair is just another motivator to slay your day. The products detailed here make sure I accomplish this goal one wash & go at a time.
