There I was reading an article about a famous musical artist who lived by the idea that he would let his light shine no matter what. It wasn’t until then that it hit me.
Although I’d sang Let it Shine repeatedly as a child, reading the article made me take the time to think about what the lyrics truly meant.
“This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” – an affirmation prompting us to illuminate the world with the spirit within us.
I thought about my light for awhile. Sometimes it was dimmed by fear of rejection, and others by this feeling that my little light wasn’t enough to make much of a difference. But in those moments I sold myself short, failing to realize that even a small candle lights up a dark room.
That being said, more and more each day, I’m making it my business to let my light shine. Whether it’s through mentorship, community service, or simply sharing a smile. I realize that the gleam of my soul is powerful -creating daily opportunities to shift the atmosphere of my world little by little if I let it, and likewise for you.
Refuse to go unlit or hidden for worry of the outcome. It’s your light to shine, and you deserve to dazzle the world with it.
