Struggling to be consistent with your side hustle or dedicate time to your ultimate dream? You’re not alone. Most of us have to overcome mental blocks when we consider adding new things to our already full plate.
To be frank, I came up with an idea for a side hustle, then struggled to balance it all for at least the first 4- 5 months. As I noticed the strain, I made the decision to get strategic about giving every minute a purpose. And over the next few weeks, I found that I could navigate my already busy life + my side hustle with the right game plan.
What’s more is that I’ve increased my productivity and noticed larger strides in my ability to get things done.
With the right effort, it’s very much so possible to find the time to handle your work responsibilities, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and keep your relationships in tact all at once. Here’s how:
Cook and Listen
Meal prepping is the perfect time to catch up on informative podcasts that teach you more about your niche or keep you motivated to stay the course. Pull out your wireless headphones and listen as you cook. This is a terrific way to take in valuable information while also ensuring that you and your family eat healthy.

Exercise and Watch
For a while, I neglected exercise because I felt like that hour in the gym took away time from my side hustle. These days, I feel a lot less guilty about working out now that gym time doubles as a learning opportunity.
While you’re getting in your cardio at the gym, catch up on periscopes, webinars, and Pinterest posts you’ve been meaning to check out.
Even if you’re a person who prefers to take notes while you learn, there’s nothing like reinforcement to help things stick. Watch the video once then watch again taking notes.
Besides, prioritizing your health is a fantastic way to avoid burnout in your business.
Bring Lunch and Work
Everyone takes a lunch. Utilize yours to maximize your time. You’d be surprised at how much you can get done in 30 minutes or an hour. Here are a few of my favorite things to do at lunch:
• Edit blog posts and update SEO
• Complete social media graphics
• Participate in masterclasses and webinars
• Write down blog post ideas
• Attend meetings or conference calls related to my side hustle
• Respond to subscriber emails and collaboration emails
• Pitch ideas
Turn Off the Tube and Open Your Laptop
New York Daily News estimates that the average American watches 5 hours of TV per day. Imagine if you used that time for your side hustle instead!
Utilize your DVR to record your favorite shows and designate times to catch up on the things you can’t live without. In the meantime, create calendar blocks specifically dedicated to working the dream. You’ll notice more consistency and productivity in no time.
Wake Up Early and Get the Worm
Early mornings are ideal for getting things done. In my instance, my husband enjoys spending quality time together after work. This means that I should capitalize on early mornings to give him my undivided attention in the evenings.
If you’re anything like me, getting up earlier is like forcing yourself to do the unthinkable.
Say no more. Here are some tips from Mattie James on becoming a morning person in a week.
On days I don’t make it out of bed early, I work late to get the job done.
Brunch and Plan
Utilize a sizable portion of your weekends for working. For example, Saturday mornings are great for batching emails, writing a blog post, or taking dope pictures for your Instagram feed. As a treat, reward yourself with a date or spa time before the day is over.
On Sundays, brunch. But afterward, take time to map out your schedule for the week.
I personally like to spend this time assessing my quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals. Here’s a the technique I use to ensure I take productivity and time management to the next level throughout my week. After I review how I’m doing, I map out action steps for the next week or two, adjusting them along the way as necessary.
