For years, I was a water and moisturizer girl- washing my face with water then following up with a dope moisturizer as the extent of my daily skin care routine. But I’m 30 now, and it’s high time that I do a little more to keep myself together. Especially since I recently experienced a string of random breakouts and uncontrollable dry patches (probably caused by climate and water changes).
In defense of my B A S I C skin care routine, I’d like to point out that until now, I’ve never really had skin issues that made me stop to think that much about what I should be doing to maintain healthy skin. In fact, my historical response when people asked how I achieved such healthy skin was, “ I mind my own business and avoid talking about others.” 😊
Nonetheless, I’m old and wiser. And when you know better you do better. That being said, I’ve been super dedicated to making my skin care routine a priority. And what do you know? My skin feels awesome, the compliments are rolling in, and the requests for deets on my fave skin care products are coming in by the boat load.
So here you go! Full disclosure on the products that are helping me maintain healthy skin that I can be proud of.
Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel
One of my best friends end all her good advice with, “trust me, I ain’t gone tell you nothing wrong.” And after taking her recommendation to use Hydro Boost products, I’ve gotta say that she’s right. Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel is perfect for restoring moisture to my face, especially during the winter months. After each use, my skin feels soft and supple. It’s great for locking in much needed moisture.
Secret weapon: When I really want to go the extra mile to glow up, I wash once with Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel then follow up with Burt’s Bee Cleansing Oil (listed below). This Combo is like no other.
Burt’s Bee Cleansing Oil
Let me just say this: Burt’s Bee did it thang with this one, yall! I literally apply it to my face and give the same “oh my goodness this stuff is SO good” reaction EVERY TIME.
If you’ve never used a cleansing oil, you’re in for a treat. Just dispense Burt’s Bee Cleansing Oil into your hand and massage it over your dry face. Next, wet your hands and massage until you feel the “oh my goodness” factor. You can literally feel the Coconut and Argan Oils immediately start to soften, smooth, and nourish your skin. It’s 100% all natural and 100% the truth.
Burt’s Bee Cleansing Oil is my primary cleanser of choice when I’m removing makeup. It does a great job of getting the excess off without constant washing and rewashing often necessary with other cleansers.
Makeup Removal Hack: I start by using Neutrogena Night Calming Makeup Remover cleansing towelettes then go to work with the Burt’s Bee’s. Afterwards, I follow up one last time with Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel and apply moisturizer.
Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser
Whenever I notice large pores, I whip out my Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser to visibly reduce the appearance of pores and refine my skin. This exfoliator is gentle enough to use everyday + it’s perfect for getting clear, smooth, and even toned skin.
I like that it gets rid of dead surface skin and shrinks my pores.
Added Bonus: This stuff works super fast!
With regular use, I see a difference in my skin in less than a week.
The key to being selfie ready: Since using Neutrogena Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser, I notice that my makeup goes on much smoother. No more worrying about whether the camera will catch imperfections. After using this cleanser, you’ll be ready for your close up.
Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner
I like to combo the Pore Refining Exfoliating Cleanser with the Pore Refining Toner to seal the deal. It tones uneven areas of the skin and penetrates deep into pores to visibly reduce their appearance. After using a cotton ball to sweep this toner across my face, it leaves me feeling totally refreshed. It’s the bonus that I can’t get enough of.
Freeman Charcoal + Black Sugar Gel Mask + Scrub
Every three days, I like to use Freeman Charcoal + Black Sugar Gel Mask + Scrub to detox my pores and exfoliate my skin. The charcoal in the mask helps pull out impurities collected over the days. The sugar is amazing for scrubbing away dead skin build up.
Freeman is my go-to for giving my skin a deep clean that makes a world of difference. Each time I use it, I feel like I’m going the extra mile to keep my skin smooth and healthy. Twice a week with Freeman’s goes a long way. Every girl should at it to her skin care regimen.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
I’m really not sure how I was making it before I found Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (Again, shout out to my best fran for putting on game). This baby locks in moisture in a major way without feeling heavy or oily. I LOVE the smooth feel of this stuff. I can’t get enough of the glow it gives my skin or the compliments it gets me. In fact, I’ve literally ran through my water gel in no time because it’s just that amazing. No matter what I wash with, I always end my skin care regimen by moisturizing with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel.
Bottom line: It’s the GOAT.
