For years, I’ve been mean to my natural hair with excessive heat and lack of a consistent hair regimen (or wash n go routine). Like most things, this inconsistency and neglect of proper processes was bound to show up (there’s a motivational message to be preached here but I’ll save it for another day).
As a result, my hair was extremely heat damaged in the front, making it difficult for me to style it without hiding the heat damage in a bun or twisting it back. Over the last year, I’ve consistently said, “no” to heat and it’s made a world of difference.
I also got one not so good cut at a random beauty salon followed by a Devacut with a curl specialist a few months later. Although I still have a ting of heat damage, it’s not nearly as noticeable, and I now feel more confident wearing my hair down.
Since my hair cut, I’ve also made it a priority to take better care of my hair. I’m learning to embrace my curls, something I almost unlearned based upon entering the law profession + the constant “so what are you going to do with your hair?” questions asked before every special event/interview/major outing.
My hair is my hair. Falling in love with it is something I’m growing to appreciate day after day. It’s mine, and it’s a part of me. I still LOVE a good wig. In fact, I recommend them as an easy protective style. But on weeks when I want my fro out, here are products I’m using for my wash n go look.
DevaCurl No-Poo Original Zero Lather Conditioning Cleanser
Since my DevaCut, I’ve been obsessed with DevaCurl products. The price point is a bit higher than previous hair products I’ve invested in so I’m slowly building my collection. I thought it was important to start with a good cleanser so I copped DevaCurl No-Poo Original Zero Lather Conditioning Cleanser. The name’s a mouth full but it says it all.
If you haven’t heard, regularly using shampoo strips hair of natural oils necessary to maintain healthy natural hair. This product helps cleanse the hair without stripping it. I love that it moisturizes and stimulates with peppermint and grapeseed oil. It’s 100% sulfate paraben silicone free. It leaves my hair feeling soft and bouncy. This product puts the “wash” in my wash n go routine.
DevaCurl Deep Sea Repair Seaweed Strengthening Mask
These days, I’m using DevaCurl Deep Sea Repair Seaweed Strengthening Mask to repair remaining heat damage. It’s also great for ensuring my hair is strong enough to handle detangling and manipulation between washes. I love that it’s reviving my curls and returning them back to maximum healthiness. I also notice increased curl definition and body after using this Mask. Like all DevaCurl products, it also 100% sulfate paraben silicone free.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave- In Conditioning Repair Cream
After I’ve washed and deep conditioned, I apply Cantu Shea Butter Leave- In Conditioning Repair Cream. This leave in is made with 100% Pure Shea Butter. I love that it infuses my hair with silky soft moisture that makes my hair more manageable. It also minimizes frizz and maximizes curl definition. I use it to detangle before I style my hair.
DevaCurl B’leave-in Miracle Curl Plumber
Girrrrrlllllllllll, DevaCurl B’leave-in Miracle Curl Plumber gives my hair life…LITERALLY! I use this gel like product to style and shape my wash n go. I love that it plumps my curls and adds volume. It’s helped lessen my extreme dislike for first-day-hair by expanding my curls. A major plus is that this product is light weight and doesn’t make my hair feel crunch or sticky.
I have no clue what I was doing before this stuff came into my life. After seeing the difference it made it in my hair at the salon, it was the first investment I made into my DevaCurl collection. I aint regretted it since *shrugs*.
Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream
I like to cocktail B’leave-in with Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream for the ultimate styling combo. These two together really get my wash n go popping. I’ve used Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream to style my hair since I can remember. In fact, I use it on almost a daily basis to revive my curls and touch up areas that get frizzy.
Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment
As I’m wrapping up my wash n go routine, I use Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment to seal my curls and prevent frizz. After I’ve styled my hair, I scrunch the oil into the ends of my hair for a shiny finish that protects my hair from dryness and gives it a nice sheen.
